The 2015/16 hockey season will be Dustin Forbes’ ninth year of play by play and third as the voice of the Western Hockey League’s, Lethbridge Hurricanes. Dustin is also the Hurricanes Broadcast & Communications Manager.

Dustin began his play by play dream at the age of 17 when he started doing play by play for his hometown Comox Valley Glacier Kings of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. He did the play by play for the Glacier Kings for the 2008/09 & 2009/10 hockey seasons. At the same time as broadcasting for the Glacier Kings, Dustin worked with Vista Radio LTD working at 98.9 JET FM in Courtenay.

Following the two seasons with the Glacier Kings and working at JET FM, Dustin went to school to attend the Broadcast Journalism program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. During his time at BCIT, Dustin did the play by play for the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s, Richmond Sockeyes for the 2010/11 & 2011/12 hockey seasons. At the same time as doing the play by play for the Sockeyes, Dustin hosted pre-and-post games and intermissions with the then, WHL’s Chilliwack Bruins for the 2010/11 season.

While attending BCIT, Dustin also interned at Rogers Sportsnet Pacific covering the Vancouver Canucks and the BC Lions. He also interned at CKNW 980, CHEK-TV Sports in Victoria, as well as The Zone at 91.3 working with Marlon Martens on the Victoria Royals broadcasts.

Dustin was also the voice of the 2012 and 2013 British Columbia Junior “B” Provincial tournament, the Cyclone Taylor Cup.

After graduating from BCIT, Dustin was the Assistant Director of Media Relations & Communications with the Western Lacrosse Association’s, Victoria Shamrocks for the 2012 season before he headed off to Saskatchewan for his first Junior-A broadcasting position. While in Saskatchewan, Dustin was the Sports Anchor/Reporter at MBC Radio in La Ronge and did the play by play for the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the 2012/13 hockey season. After one year in Northern Saskatchewan, he moved back West.

Dustin spent the 2013/14 hockey season as the play by play voice of the British Columbia Hockey League’s Cowichan Capitals on 89.7 SUN FM. He also served as the Capitals Media and Communications Director.
