The Lethbridge Hurricanes put a three game winning streak on the line on Saturday afternoon as they make their first of three visits to Scotiabank Saddledome to face the Calgary Hitmen at 2:00pm.
The Hurricanes (10-11-1-2) are coming off a 4-3 victory last night over the Swift Current Broncos at the ENMAX Centre. Colton Kroeker, Ryley Lindgren, Egor Babenko and Jordy Bellerive scored the goals in the victory for the Hurricanes. The ‘Canes had 43 shots on goal in the game marking just the third time this season the ‘Canes have eclipsed the 40-shot plateau.
The Hitmen (8-11-2-0) are coming off a loss last night to the Moose Jaw Warriors at the ‘Dome. Calgary sits fifth in the Central Division with 18 points, four back of Edmonton for fourth spot in the Division. Today will be Calgary’s annual Teddy Bear Toss.
Today is the second of six meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and the Hitmen. Lethbridge took the first meeting 4-0 at the ENMAX Centre on October 1st.
Lethbridge Point of View
Another Shutout?: In their only meeting of the season this year, the Hurricanes shutout the Hitmen 4-0. The ‘Canes will hope to shut them out again tonight and ruin the fun of Calgary’s annual Teddy Bear Toss game. This will be the first of three Teddy Bear Tosses the Hurricanes will take part in, including their own on December 2nd against Red Deer.
Return of Preef: Tonight will mark the return to Calgary for Hurricanes defenseman Ty Prefontaine. The 1999-born rearguard was acquired by the ‘Canes from the Hitmen on October 28th. Prefontaine only appeared in eight games as a Calgary Hitmen recording his only WHL point in that time.
Calgary Point of View
Man Missing: The Hitmen have spent most of the season without the services of defenseman Jake Bean. Last year Bean was an offensive dynamo from the blue line putting up 24 goals and 64 points. This year the Carolina Hurricanes first rounder has played in just three games due to injury. He’s out another week or so with an upper-body injury.
Teddy Bear Toss: Tonight will be the Hitmen’s annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Saddledome. That means not only will there be a great atmosphere with a great crowd, but there will also be a long delay at some point. Calgary’s Jordy Stallard sent the bears flying last year as the Hitmen fans threw out 19,289 bears on Saddledome ice.
