The Break Down

The Lethbridge Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Swift Current Broncos for the first of four meetings this year.

The Hurricanes (9-11-1-2) are coming off a come-from-behind 6-5 victory on Sunday in Portland against the Winterhawks. It was an offensive explosion for the ‘Canes who hadn’t scored more than three goals in their previous seven games. It was just the second time in their last 15 games they’d scored more than three goals in an outing. The win in Portland was the ‘Canes second straight after a five game losing streak. Tonight the Hurricanes will look to end a two-game home losing streak.

The Broncos (13-7-2-4) are coming off a 3-1 victory Wednesday night in Prince Albert against the Raiders for their second straight win. The Broncos currently sit second in the East Division with 32 points. Newcomer Ryan Graham, who was acquired on Monday from Saskatoon, has had an immediate impact for Swift Current as he’s netted six points in his first two games.

Tonight will be the first of two in a row for the Hurricanes who will play tomorrow afternoon in Calgary. It is also the Canes Crush Cancer night at the ENMAX Centre that includes a Toonie Toss in the second intermission.

What To Watch

Lethbridge Point of View

Oh Captain, My Captain: Tyler Wong has been getting it done as of late. The overage forward has points in three straight games and four of his last five. Wong has racked up eight points in the span with four multi-point efforts in the last five. The Cochrane, Alberta product has six goals in that span and has scored the game winner in each of the last two outings.

Time to Make Hay: That’s right, it’s time for the Hurricanes to start to clean up. Let’s be honest, the schedule maker didn’t do the ‘Canes any favours with their schedule in the first two months of the season. They’ve been all over the map like a yo-yo in the last six weeks hitting each Canadian Province and each US State in which a WHL team resides. The benefit, aside from three more Saskatchewan trips, the team has gotten all of the hard travel out of the way early. Now they can start to clean up with home games and day trips!

Swift Current Point of View

New Man at the Helm: Manny Viveiros, the new head coach of the Swift Current Broncos, seems to have re-ignited the club. After missing the post-season last year with just 24 victories, the Broncos are already over half way to that win total as they enter tonight with a 13-7-2-4 record on the season – they sit second in the East division.

Golden Graham: The Broncos acquired overage forward Ryan Graham earlier this week from the Saskatoon Blades and he has paid off in spades. Graham has six points (3g-3a) in his first two games as a Bronco. Swift still has one overage spot left.
