The Lethbridge Hurricanes wrapped up a three-game East Division road trip on Friday night in Brandon against the Wheat Kings and for the second time in three games dropped a 6-1 decision.
It was a spirited first period between the Hurricanes and the Wheat Kings. Brandon jumped out to an early lead 1-0 lead as former Hurricane Reid Duke took a Linden McCorrister drop pass and snapped on by Stuart Skinner goal post and in just 4:44 into the game. Midway through the period, Wheat Kings overage forward hit Giorgio Estephan from behind resulting in a five-minute major for checking from behind and the Hurricanes struck on the ensuing penalty after two minutes of four-on-four as Zane Franklin stepped up and fought Coulter. Brayden Burke beat a screened Jordan Papirny with a slapshot for his third goal of the season at the 15:52 mark – Brennan Menell and Ryley Lindgren drew the assists on the tying goal. Hurricanes led the shot department 12-8.
In the second period, the Wheat Kings forged ahead scoring both goals in the period. Cole Reinhardt netted his second of the season 1:37 into the period after a rebound off a Tanner Kaspick shot went off Reinhardt’s skate and past Skinner for a shorthanded goal that made it 2-1. Brandon added another at the 12:48 mark as Kaspick redirected a Kale Clague point shot in to make it 3-1 Wheaties. Brandon led the shot department 16-8 in the second period.
In the third, everything fell apart for the Hurricanes. After receiving an early power play, off the ensuing faceoff Kaspick picked off a pass and was away to the races on a two-on-one with Clague who beat Skinner once receiving the pass for the Wheat Kings second shorthanded goal of the night just 2:08 into the third period making it 4-1 Brandon. Just 49 seconds later, Wheat Kings struck again as James Shearer netted his first. On a power play at the 8:17 mark, Duke centered to Ty Lewis who roofed it over the glove of Skinner to put Brandon up 6-1 and that was the final.
Shots on goal in the third period favoured Brandon 14-13 and 38-33 overall. The Hurricanes went 1/5 on the power play while Brandon was 1/3.

The Hurricanes record slips to 5-6-1-1 on the season with the fifth straight loss. The ‘Canes will return home for a pair of games next weekend when they welcome the Prince George Cougars on Friday night before the Red Deer Rebels come to town on Saturday night.
