The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Friday that the team has signed forward Hayden Clayton to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.
Clayton, 16, was not drafted in the WHL Bantam Draft. The Red Deer, Alberta product was invited to Hurricanes training camp where he impressed. He appeared last season with the Red Deer Northstar Chiefs in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League where in 34 games he registered 24 points (16g-8a) along with 58 penalty minutes. Clayton added an additional five points (1g-4a) and six penalty minutes in three post-season games.
“Hayden is a big kid that I think has a lot of potential,” said Hurricanes General Manager, Peter Anholt. “He had a good camp here. We felt that he was really strong and we talked about signing him but we thought we should send him back so he can focus on making Midget in Red Deer. Now the process will start with him.”
The 6’2”, 170-pound forward will skate with the Red Deer Chiefs in the Alberta Midget Hockey League during the 2016-2017 season.
