Lethbridge Hurricanes (34-12-0-0) vs. Spokane Chiefs (20-19-3-2)
The Lethbridge Hurricanes continued their season long five game home stand on Wednesday night as they earned a 4-0 shutout victory over the Spokane Chiefs.
The line of Brayden Burke, Giorgio Estephan and Tyler Wong combined for ten points in the win; Burke scored his first WHL hat-trick, Estephan potted a goal and three assists while Wong had three helpers on the night. Stuart Skinner made 32 saves for his third career shutout, and second this season, as he won his seventh straight start and 18th game of the year.
The ‘Canes lit the lamp early in the first period as Burke tapped home his first of three on the night and 15th of the season as Wong found him back-door to make it 1-0 just 6:06 into the opening period – Estephan earned the second assist. The ‘Canes had multiple power play’s in the first period but couldn’t beat Tyson Verhelst to extend their lead as they led 1-0 after one period. ‘Canes outshot the Chiefs 12-8 in the first period.
The second period didn’t provide much as neither team found the back of the net. The Chiefs did an excellent job stalling the ‘Canes attack in the middle frame with multiple blocked shots and sticks in shooting lanes. Verhelst was terrific in the second period keeping the ‘Canes in a 1-0 lead. Spokane held the shot advantage 12-9 in the period.
In the third, the ‘Canes started to look like the ‘Canes. Estephan scored yet another beautiful goal, this time shorthanded, to make it 2-0 Lethbridge just 1:31 into the third period – Jordy Bellerive earned the lone assist on the play. The Burke scored two more; first, at the 7:25 mark Estephan found Burke back door as he scored his second of the night before the Edmonton product beat Verhelst with an absolute laser just over five minutes later to complete the hat-trick – Wong and Estephan picked up the assists on both tallies.
The ‘Canes were outshot 12-10 in the third period and 32-31 on the night. The ‘Canes went 0/5 on the power play while held the Chiefs to 0/2.

The win for the Hurricanes extends their winning streak to eight straight games, matching their longest winning streak of the season. The ‘Canes are now 14-1-0-0 in their last 15 games; 20-3-0-0 on home ice; and 34-12-0-0 overall. The ‘Canes remind first overall in the Western Hockey League.
