The Lethbridge Hurricanes travel to Swift Current to face the Broncos for the second time in a week tonight at 6:00pm at Credit Union I-Plex in hopes of extending winning streak to five.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 7-1 win on Saturday night at the ENMAX Centre over the Kootenay Ice. Egor Babenko and Brayden Burke each scored a pair of goals while Tyler Wong added three points in the lopsided victory. Jayden Sittler made 31 saves to earn his 14th victory of the season.
The Broncos are riding a five game losing streak and are just 2-7-1-0 in their last ten games. Swift Current is coming off a 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon to the hands of the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Broncos were handed a 5-2 last in Lethbridge last Wednesday.
Tonight will be the final of four meetings on the season, the ‘Canes are a perfect 3-0-0-0 against Swift Current this season.
Lethbridge Point of View
Deadline Deals: Much like the entire WHL, the Hurricanes were relatively quiet during the 2016 WHL Trade Deadline. The ‘Canes made two minor trades sending defenseman Scott Allan to Calgary for a seventh round pick in 2017. The bigger of the two trades was the acquisition of 1997-born forward Colton Kroeker from the Regina Pats in exchange for a third round selection in 2016.
30 Mark: For the first time since 2008-2009, the Hurricanes have cracked the 30 win plateau after earning their 30th victory on Saturday against the Kootenay Ice. The Hurricanes are on pace for 51 victories this season; only once have they cracked 50 that was in 1989-1990 when they won 51.
Swift Current Point of View
Slip-and-Slide: This season hasn’t been very good for the Swift Current Broncos. The Broncos have been slipping as of late currently riding a five game losing streak. Entering tonight, Swift Current only has 12 wins compared to the ‘Canes 30.
Child’s Play: The Swift Current goaltending torch has officially been passed. The Broncos last Tuesday traded overage netminder Landon Bow to the Seattle Thunderbirds for a package that included former ‘Canes captain Jamal Watson (if he suits up, tonight will be Watson’s 300th WHL game). The man to take over Bow’s big shoes is Travis Child. Despite a 3-10-0-1 record, Child has a save percentage of .907 and a goals against of 3.02.
