The Lethbridge Hurricanes wrap up a three-game home stand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels as the ‘Canes will hold their 20th Annual Canadian Tire Toque and Teddy Toss at the ENMAX Centre.
The Hurricanes are coming off just their third home ice loss of the season last night to the Prince Albert Raiders as Rylan Parenteau made 40 saves to keep the highest scoring team off the board in a 2-0 Raider win. The Hurricanes mustered only 18 shots through the first forty minutes, but a strong third period where they fired 22 shots on goal built some momentum.
Tonight will be the Hurricanes final home game before the Christmas Break. The ‘Canes will embark on an 11 day, six game road trip out East beginning next Friday in Brandon.
The Rebels enter tonight’s contest having had a week off since their last game. Red Deer last played last Saturday when they picked up a 2-1 win over the Regina Pats in Red Deer. The Rebels lead the Central Division with a record of 19-8-0-0 on the season and 38 points – the ‘Canes enter tonight with a record of 18-10-0-0 and 36 points.
Tickets are going fast, call (403) 329-SEAT to reserve your seat. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or toque to throw onto the ice when the Hurricanes score their first goal of the game. It is recommended that all Teddy’s and Toques be in clear bags.
As well, Santa Clause will be roaming the concourse from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and will be upstairs in the lounge following the game for photos. And, the Hurricanes will be holding a full team autograph session following the game in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge.
Lethbridge Point of View
Teddy Time: Yes, the time has come. Tonight is the 20th Annual Canadian Tire Teddy and Toque Toss at the ENMAX Centre as the ‘Canes host the Red Deer Rebels. If you’re coming to the game, be sure to bring a bear or toque (preferably wrapped in a clear bag) to throw on the ice when the ‘Canes score their first goal of the year.
First Place Showdown: Tonight’s game is yet another monstrous first half game. The two teams enter ever so close in the Central Division standings. Tonight’s game could have first place implications on the line. The Hurricanes have won the lone game between the two games back on October 6th when they won 5-2 at the ENMAX Centre.
Red Deer Point of View
Looking Like Mem Cup Contenders: As you might expect, with the Red Deer Rebels hosting the MasterCard Memorial Cup this season, Brent Sutter began the load up last year by acquiring players like Nelson Nogier, Ivan Nikolishin and drafting Michael Spacek. And it’s worked. The Rebels look like a contender having posted a 19-8-0-0 record entering play tonight.
Underwhelming Bleackley: Despite the success of the Rebels as a team, the play of Conner Bleackley has been underwhelming to say the least. The Colorado first rounder, who remains without a contract, has just five goals this season and 18 points in 25 games. The High River, AB, product has scored 27 and 29 goals the last two seasons.
