The Lethbridge Hurricanes make their second stop on a season-long six-game road trip tonight when they face the Victoria Royals at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre at 8:00pm MT.
The Hurricanes are coming off a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night for their sixth straight victory. The ‘Canes enter action tonight with an 8-2-0-0 record through ten games. The Hurricanes currently sit second in the Central Division and have the second-best winning percentage (.800%) in the WHL only behind the Prince Albert Raiders.
The Royals are coming off a 3-0 victory on Saturday night in the second of a double-header in Spokane against the Chiefs. The win for Victoria snapped a four-game losing streak after starting the year 7-1-0-0. Despite their recent defeats, the Royals are still sitting second in the Western Conference with an 8-5-0-0 record.
Tonight will be the first of two meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Royals. Victoria won the only meeting between the two teams 4-2 at the ENMAX Centre last year. The ‘Canes will make their first appearance in the BC Capital since October 12th/2013 when they dropped a 4-3 decision.
Lethbridge Point of View
It’s Been A While: Tonight will be the first time in over two years that the Hurricanes will play a game in the BC Capital. After not visiting Victoria last year, the Hurricanes will look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Royals tonight. It’s the first time the ‘Canes have been in Victoria since October 12th/2013.
Best Start in 19 Years: The ‘Canes enter tonight riding a six-game winning streak and sit with a record of 8-2-0-0. That’s the best start to a season after nine games the Hurricanes have had since 1996-1997. That was the season the Hurricanes went on to win the WHL Championship.
Victoria Point of View
About To Go Trippin’: After playing a weekend double-header in Spokane on Friday and Saturday, the Royals make a one-game pit-stop to face the Hurricanes tonight. The Royals will head out East to face all six East Division teams starting in Prince Albert this coming Friday.
The Wrath of Vollrath: The Royals overage goaltender, Coleman Vollrath, has been superb to start the new campaign. The Calgary product has started the season with a 7-5-0-0 record and has appeared in all but one game for Victoria this season. He sits top five in both WHL goals against average (1.98) and save percentage (.930). He is also tied for first in the WHL with wins (7). He has been the WHL’s nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week twice this season.
