Lethbridge Hurricanes (7-2-0-0) vs. Swift Current Broncos (4-7-1-0)
The Lethbridge Hurricanes played their final home game of October on Friday night at the ENMAX Centre as they hosted the Swift Current Broncos and the ‘Canes picked up a 3-2 overtime win to pick up their fifth straight victory.
Ryley Lindgren scored the overtime winner in a thrilling three-on-three OT display with chances galore at both ends. Jayden Sittler stopped 26 Bronco shots to pick up his fifth win of the year, he is now a perfect 5-0-0-0 in games he’s started.
The Hurricanes pressured early in the first period but failed to connect on anything despite a handful of great chances in front of the net with Broncos starter Landon Bow out of position and open nets. The Broncos opened the scoring at the 10:17 mark as Jake DeBrusk had one go off his skate and passed Jayden Sittler to make it 1-0 – assists went to Jon Martin and Glenn Gawdin. The Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 11-10 in the first period, but trailed 1-0 after twenty minutes.
In the second period, the Hurricanes came out buzzing with chances and they tied the game at the 3:14 mark as Giorgio Estephan tipped home his third goal of the year to make it 1-1. It was a great tip, but a better pass by Tyler Wong who picked up a point to continue his point-scoring streak to nine games – Jordy Bellerive picked up the second assist on the play. The Hurricanes and Broncos both had chances, but the first period came to an end in a 1-1 tie.
Egor Babenko sniped home his fifth goal of the season off a faceoff win by Justin Gutierrez as he gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the night making it 2-1 at the 8:29 mark – Cory Millette snapped a five-game pointless streak with an assist on the play. The lead, however, was short-lived as DeBrusk scored his second of the night shorthanded at the 15:43 mark to send the game to overtime tied 2-2.
The three-on-three overtime was thrilling. The Hurricanes had two breakaways as well did the Broncos but the game finished on a two-on-one as Babenko fed one cross-ice and Lindgren buried passed Bow to give the ‘Canes a 3-2 overtime victory.
The Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 40-28 in the game. ‘Canes went 0/4 on the power play while the Broncos went 0/2.

The win for the Hurricanes improves their record to 7-2-0-0 on the season; their best start through nine games since 1996-1997.The Hurricanes now head out on a season-long six game road trip that starts Saturday in Edmonton against the Oil Kings before they head west for games in each of the five BC Division cities – all the games can be heard on ROCK 106.
