‘Canes Hold Off Tigers

Lethbridge Hurricanes     vs.    Tigers

Lethbridge Hurricanes (14-31-3-3)     vs.     Medicine Hat Tigers (35-14-3-3)

A three goal first period helped the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 4-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre on Friday night in front of over 3,700 fans.

Tyler Wong, Nick Walters and Carter Amson all returned to the Hurricanes line up on Friday after Wong and Walters missed time due to injuries, while Amson served a five game suspension.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring 10:08 into the game as Trevor Cox had a puck bounce to him off a body before he snapped one over the glove of ‘Canes starter Jayden Sittler to make it 1-0 Tigers. Hurricanes responded as Carter Folk jumped on a rebound off a Ryley Lindgren snap shot and beat Marek Langhamer high to the blocker side to tie the score. Giorgio Estephan continued his hot hand when he ripped one by Langhamer to give the ‘Canes their first lead of the night making it 2-1 – Scott Allan earned his first point as a ‘Cane with an assist while Brayden Burke picked up the other helper. Under two minutes later, Burke would get a goal of his own as he chipped one by the Tigers’ goalie to make it 3-1 Lethbridge after one period of play. Shots were even at 12 apiece in the opening frame.

In the second period the ‘Canes continued to press offensively and try to control the pace. After a Ty Stanton turnover behind the Tigers’ goal, Burke centered to Wong who roof it high over Langhamer to make it 4-1 Hurricanes. Medicine Hat didn’t go away however as they cut the lead to two with a power play goal by Chad Labelle. They’d make it 4-3 as Cole Sanford scored his league-leading 42nd of the year to make it a one goal contest headed to the third period.

With just 2:37 gone in the third period, a major delay occurred with an ice issue that halted the game for over an hour. The two teams returned to their dressing rooms for nearly 45 minutes before returning to the ice to play the final 17:23 of the game. Neither team added anything as the ‘Canes held off the Tigers push skating to the 4-3 victory.

Three stars of the game were:

1) ‘Canes – #19 Brayden Burke – (1 goal, 2 assists)
2) Tigers – #36 Trevor Cox – (1 goal, 2 assists)
3) ‘Canes – #27 Carter Folk – (1 goal)

The Hurricanes and Tigers do things over again on Saturday night in the final meeting of the season and the final time ever that the ‘Canes will play at the Medicine Hat Arena. The ‘Canes will be back home on Sunday afternoon to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings at 4pm
