Two ‘Canes D Crack List

nhlcssmidtermThe National Hockey League announced their Central Scouting Service midterm rankings on Tuesday and two Lethbridge Hurricanes have cracked the list.

Hurricanes defensemen Andrew Nielsen and Kade Jensen both cracked the list of North American skaters, while Giorgio Estephan who was listed as a “C” skater on the November list has dropped off.

Nielsen, 18, from Red Deer is ranked #69 among North American skaters, while Jensen, 17, from Calgary comes in at #164.

Nielsen is in his first season with the Hurricanes and is having a terrific rookie season. After collecting 18 points (3g-15a) in 35 games last season in Midget AAA with the Red Deer Chiefs, the 6’3″, 210-pound rearguard has picked up 16 points (4g-12a) in 36 games along with 76 penalty minutes in the WHL this season. Nielsen is ranked 7th among WHL defenseman on the list that are eligible for this years NHL Draft.

Jensen is in his second season with the Hurricanes after appearing in 46 games last season as a 16-year-old. The Calgary native in 35 games this season has scored 11 points (3g-8a). The 6’3″, 191-pound defenseman is quickly proving he can be a strong quarterback on the power play as eight of his 11 points have come with the man advantage.

A total of 45 WHL skaters are ranked on the latest list of Central Scouting. The 2015 NHL Entry Draft will take place June 26-27 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
