The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced Wednesday that Jamal Watson will head a strong leadership group for the coming season. The 19-year-old will be the 24th player in Hurricanes history to dawn the Captaincy.
Watson is entering his fourth season with the Hurricanes. He has consistently been a hard worker and a producer offensively with 18 goals last year and 20 the year before. And if he can score on just half of his breakaways, he would easily be a 35 to 40 goal scorer!
The Calgary, AB, native will have a large and strong group of assistants to help him as the club announced defenseman Nick Walters, Tyler Bell, and Lenny Hackman, as well as forwards Riley Sheen, Tyler Wong and Carter Folk will split time wearing “A’s”.
Personally, I think this is a great leadership group. Every player brings something different to the table and many of them have been “around”. Watson enters his fourth year with the ‘Canes while Hackman and Wong each enter their third. While Bell, Walters and Sheen are 20-year-old’s that have played on pretty good teams and have been able to learn what it takes to win. While Folk is the type of player that teams win with – he has the ability to drop the mitts, and chip in with some spotted offense. All seven players will be able to teach the younger group what it takes to be successful on and off the ice and that is the most important thing.
